The 7th edition of the Montreal All-Nighter
will take place on February 27, 2010.
For its sixth birthday, the Montreal All-Nighter enjoyed yet another
growth spurt! Credit a program of 170 activities (fifty more than last year!),
and the addition of two new zones linked by Métro, the Pôle Maisonneuve
and the Pôle Parc Jean-Drapeau. And this year, thanks
to the special participation of the STM, the Métro remained
open all night especially for the event! The initiative appears to
have worked, because we noted a regular flow of attendance during the extended opening
hours (1:15 a.m. to 5:30 a.m.), roughly equivalent to a late Saturday night. Likewise
the regular night bus service, which experienced increased ridership. Add in the
famed free shuttle service-also provided in collaboration with
the STM-serving four routes and comprising a total of 55 stops, and Festival
fans enjoyed a comprehensive and effective transportation network that helped them
put life into their nightlife!
Among the new additions, we must of course mention Art Souterrain,
a major activity featuring no fewer than 80 projects from 110 contemporary
artists illuminating 2.8 km of corridors in the underground network between
Complexe Les Ailes and the Palais des congrès. In Complexe Desjardins,
the Chocolate Milk Youth Night was a huge hit with young
Festival fans, who danced and face one another in iPod battles, in the company of
personalities from the worlds of music (Numéro#, Orange
Orange...), radio and TV (MusiquePlus, Les Invincibles,
Les pieds dans la marge...). Even if their All-Nighter
ended at midnight, they certainly went home happy!
In truth, we had early indication of the enthusiasm to come when the computer server
crashed under an incredible surge of visits from surfers planning their night out
by consulting the MONTREAL HIGH LIGHTS site! All night long, in every corner of
the city, the event lit up Montreal, drawing an insane number of urban explorers,
including the 11,000 who visited Métropolis, for Bande
à part. Preliminary attendance totals exceed 275,000.
